Barkdust: An HOA"s Friend

Homeowner associations generally have extensive landscaping to maintain which includes, planting beds. Part of every planting bed should include an element of barkdust, barkchips, or barkmulch. This miracle soil amendment offers a number of benefits: Visual Appeal -- Instead of bare ground, barkdust provides a uniform woodsy appearance that ranges from burgundy red to a weathered gray. Barkdust even comes in painted varieties to reduce sun color fade. Erosion Control -- A two inch base of barkdust will inhibit rain water movement and give it a chance to soak in. Conserves Water -- Since barkdust absorbs water and retards evaporation, irrigation and rainwater will be retained longer and reduce water bills. Delights the Senses -- There is nothing like a fresh application of fresh cedar barkdust to delight the senses, in both aroma and view. Weed Control -- Barkdust retards weed growth and reduces the amount of time the landscape contractor must devote to weed removal. The less time the landscaper spends pulling weeds, the lower the cost to the HOA. There are several varieties of barkdust used. Medium fresh fir is reddish brown in color and is by far the most popular. Also popular is Hemlock which is darker in color and sliverless, although more expensive. Cedar chips are often used in playground areas and dog runs, and provide an effective and durable cushion material. A two inch deep base of barkdust generally lasts 2-3 years. Wind and sun will eventually deplete it but adding another inch each year will renew it nicely, giving the grounds a well maintained look. Barkdust can be applied professionally by blowing, by hand, or a combination of both. With blowing, it is important to uncover small plants and flowers following installation. Barkdust is purchased by the "unit", which measures 7.4 cubic yards. A unit covers about 1000 square feet of area two inches deep. If you know the total area to be covered, you can easily compute the total units it will take. Barkdust is truly a valuable addition to your homeowner association"s landscaping. Multiple Mortgage
I can recall back in the stone ages, say the last 1980"s, when consumers spent most of their time choosing a lender or mortgage broker. But once the chosen lender was so anointed that was pretty much it. No more applications to fill out, no more documentation to mail or fax. It was done. But not anymore. It"s not uncommon for a borrower to complete an application with more than one lender at a time to see who can ultimately offer the better deal. After all, a little head to head competition is good for everyone, right?
